On the island of Cres except the town of Cres, there are numerous other settlements which are located along the coast, while others are in higher areas. The highest point of the island is Gorice. During the history, the island was connected with island of Lošinj, today by the bridge. Coastal settlements offer many beautiful bays, beaches and crystal clear sea. In places which are located directly on the coast there are many hiking roads which lead to hidden bays. The biggest settlement on the island is the town Cres, which you will get to know by walking trough the old city core. There you will find a labyrinth of small narrow streets and variety of really high, narrow houses all connected with one another. On some of the houses you will notice an emblem which shows the working activities of the people that used to live in the certain house. Also you will find diversity of cultural-historical monuments, churches, galleries. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate the island offers many possibilities for the lovers of an active vacation. There are many excursions, and the most famous one is the one to the Vransko lake, which is located in the heart of the island and that's where many households on Cres and Brač get fresh water from. Another great trip is to the wood called Tramuntana, located on the north of the island and presents an exceptional worth of natural heritage, with many caves and holes, and the most famous one is called Campari. If you decide to go to the settlement called Beli, there you will find griffon vulture, a type of birds, officially protected by the law. The island of Cres is the only island on the Adriatic with no toxic snakes. You will be thrilled by the way of living of the locals, their activities, many natural attractions and the fact that every settlement has it's own traditional delicacie, very tasty and definitely worth providing. The most famous delicacie is the lamb prepared with aromatic plants, but there are also many sea food kind of dishes. So, the vacation on this island can either be relaxing, active, fun but surely – unforgettable.
